I AM WAYNE

Angela Barnes

WTEF Board Member

“I love that we help teachers and connect the community to schools. Teaching is an ever-changing profession because we serve young people who are always changing and growing. It makes sense that teachers find creative ways in their practice to meet the needs of the diverse learners in their classes with innovative ideas. Often our community doesn't get to see that or know that. WTEF not only creates a pathway for teachers to reach students through funding for their creative solutions, but it also opens a window for the community to see just how talented our teachers are.”

Talking about Mapmaker: The Gerrymandering Game

“I use this game in my government class. It helps explain the rather complicated topic of gerrymandering, which is the idea that political parties sometimes divide up areas in order to give themselves more votes. It’s a really fun educational tool. We get a lot out of it. We’ve used it several times. I’m really grateful to the foundation for helping me get this set.”

Talking about the WeVideo program

“It was exciting to see how motivated and enthusiastic students were regardless of their native language. It was exciting to see students' eyes light up as they were creating something exciting to share with the masses. They were empowered by this moment.”

Lisa Baize

Executive Director

"Teachers who extend themselves personally and professionally to handle a variety of student needs should know that the community is on their side, believes in their ideas, and is grateful for their heroism in the classroom. They need freedom and encouragement to try new strategies to bring the curriculum to life. With this in mind, WTEF strives to be a community catalyst that inspires your support of public education in the M.S.D. of Wayne Township."
