Thanks to scholarships provided by the Wayne Township Education Foundation, six employees of the MSD of Wayne Township will be taking their first steps on the pathway toward teaching careers. Here’s a look at each recipient and how their scholarships will make a difference:

Bryndah Keith
Powers & Sons “I Want to Be A Teacher” Scholarship

Bryndah is a paraprofessional at Chapel Glen Elementary who wants to make a more significant impact on the learning outcomes of her students.

“Knowing that education is a lifelong process, I want to not only deliver high-quality instruction to students, I want to be able to contribute to the ongoing improvements of education in the future,” Bryndah said. “My job as a lifelong educator is not only my passion, but a dream I have had since I was going to Bridgeport Elementary. I have been so grateful for the opportunity to give back to the township that has helped me reach new heights. I am very thrilled about going to school while I am working in a similar field.”

Bryndah also received a Powers & Sons scholarship last year. She plans to continue her studies at the American College of Education and graduate in 2026 with her education studies degree.

Youssef Aajaoui

While Youseff has a focus on technology and already has an associate’s degree in the subject, he is planning to become a physical education teacher. “However,” he said, “my ultimate goal is to earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree.”

Youseff is a paraprofessional at Ben Davis University and proctor for the Wayne Township Adult Education program. He plans to graduate in late 2025 with his Bachelors in Education Studies from the American College of Education.

Jenny Carmona (pictured center, above) started working as a secretary at McClelland Elementary in 2022. As the winner of two scholarships, she looks forward to one day being an elementary teacher in the MSD of Wayne Township.

“I can't wait to inspire and encourage young students in the classroom by bringing my love of learning and my cultural viewpoint,” Jenny said. “I have learned a lot about the administrative side of education and the significance of fostering a supportive atmosphere for both teachers and students in my current role as school secretary.”

Jenny will work on a bachelor’s degree in elementary education through Western Governors University with plans to graduate in 2026. Eventually, she hopes to pursue a master’s degree in education and eventually attain a position of educational leadership. She is the first person in her family to attend college. “Never have I felt so determined to finish something, as I do now,” Jenny said.

Currently a special education paraprofessional in MSD Wayne, Carla hopes to become a licensed special education teacher. “I am excited to shape my classroom and teaching methods for my students’ individual needs and use the curriculum to help the students to the best of my ability,” she said.

Carla is studying through Western Governors University.

Krista Wickline

This Sanders School paraprofessional plans to pursue a degree in elementary education at Western Governors University. Krista would like to “build a strong foundation in child development, curriculum design, and effective instructional strategies.” She adds, “I want to deepen my understanding of how young learners grow academically, socially, and emotionally so that I can better meet the diverse needs of students in Wayne Township classrooms.”

Krista’s goal is to become a teacher at Sanders and eventually assume a leadership role. She is attending Western Governors University.

Misty Duque
WTEF “I Want to be a Teacher” Scholarship

As the permanent building substitute for Garden City Elementary, Misty has discovered her passion for teaching in elementary grades.

“My first short-term goal is to finish one class at a time, while doing my best,” Misty said. “My second short-term goal is to continue to excel in my classes. I want to finish my degree within two years, versus four years. I know that I am making sacrifices that will all be worth it.”

Misty plans to pursue her degree in elementary education through Western Governors University.
