The Wayne Township Education Foundation Board of Directors is composed of a dedicated group of volunteers who want to see our children thrive. One of those board members, our Vice President Michelle Stohler, is a life-long resident of Wayne Township, a Ben Davis High School graduate, and an employee of the MSD of Wayne Township.

Michelle is a social worker at Chapelwood Elementary. She has been active in her neighborhood, and has served as a WTEF board member for more than 10 years. Below you’ll learn more about what drives Michelle’s passion for improving the lives of Wayne Township’s children.

What prompted you to begin your service on the Wayne Township Education Foundation Board of Directors?

I was prompted to serve on the foundation board because I have a heart for our westside community. I believe in our schools and community. I have always felt drawn to advocacy and work around helping community members have the best life possible. I believe the heart of the foundation is just that, it is a belief in teachers, students, families, and communities. The foundation helps grow our young people through grants, recognitions, and events, which are centered on youth success.

What are the most gratifying aspects for you in this service?

One of the most gratifying aspects of serving on the foundation board is hearing how our grants are working in classrooms. It is astounding to see how excited teachers are to receive grants, which I am privileged to see first hand at Chapelwood. I am also proud to see how foundation members work to tackle issues that the school district is struggling with due to recent budget cuts. The foundation members seem to pride themselves on being involved in the community, spreading good, and problem solving when necessary to meet important needs. I will always want to be a part of a foundation that does that.

What are the key contributions WTEF makes for our students, staff, and community?

The key contributions that the Wayne Township Education Foundations makes for our students, staff, and communities include funding grants that provide essential resources to teaching staff. Additionally, the foundation hosts a number of community attended events such as Wayne Winter Games/Giant Health Fair and theatrical performances by students and staff.

What would you say to encourage others to become involved in WTEF?

What I would say in encouragement of others to become involved in the Wayne Township Education Foundation is to give back! Give of your time, give from your pocket book. It is only when you give that you truly receive. Our children are our future and anything we can do to positively impact their lives will only brighten the future of the Wayne community for all of us.
