July 2024

The Wayne Township Education Foundation is welcoming two new members to its board of directors this month. John Rasmussen and Gabriela (Gigi) Cabello will bring additional perspective, experience, and expertise to an already diverse and accomplished board.

John Rasmussen has spent more than 20 years working in university athletics administration, including 15 years at IUPUI. John recently transitioned out of that occupation to work as director of sales for the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Two of John’s children are graduates of Ben Davis High School via Robey Elementary and Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center. His two other children are current students in the MSD of Wayne Township - one will be a junior at Ben Davis High School and the other a freshman at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center. John’s wife Jane volunteers as a HOSTS mentor at Robey.

John’s history with our school system led to his interest in serving on the WTEF board of directors.

“I’m pleased to be given another opportunity to serve young people,” John said. “I have a strong belief in public education, and I've been extremely impressed with the impact Wayne Township has had on my children’s education.”

Gabriela (Gigi) Cabello is a Ben Davis High School graduate who is now a healthcare consultant at Milliman, a global actuarial firm. Her work focuses on developing strategies and solutions to build healthier communities. Gigi came to Milliman after having attended Johns Hopkins University, where she studied molecular and cellular biology with a focus in bioethics. She then returned to Indiana to complete her master’s degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine with a focus on community and population health and chronic disease.

Gigi is eager to serve on the board of an organization that supports the educational system that nurtured her earlier in life.

“As someone with roots in Wayne Township, joining the WTEF Board is a full circle opportunity for me. I spent my most formative years growing up in Wayne Township and experienced firsthand just how much this educational community poured into me and gave me tools to achieve personal and professional goals. The WTEF mission to support enrichment and engagement opportunities for teachers and students aligns with my desire to be part of a well-established organization that supports and celebrates great things happening in our local, west side community.”

The Wayne Township Education Foundation Board of Directors consists of 17 voting members and five emeritus members. It meets once a month. For more information on our leadership, please visit the “Staff and Board” page of our website here.
