Terri Alexander-Mathews Begins a New Chapter of Service with WTEF

August 2026

After more than 36 years in education, Terri Alexander-Mathews is continuing her commitment to Wayne Township students in a new way—as a board member for the Wayne Township Education Foundation.

For Mrs.Alexander-Mathews, joining WTEF is a natural extension of a career dedicated to children and educators.

“I don’t see retirement as stepping away from education,” she said. “I see it as an opportunity to continue serving children, educators, families, and the Wayne Township community in a new way.”

Throughout her career as a second-grade teacher, assistant principal, instructional coach, staff developer and principal, Mrs. Alexander-Mathews experienced education from many perspectives. She saw firsthand how additional resources can help educators turn creative ideas into meaningful opportunities for students.

Her connection to WTEF is personal. As an instructional coach, she received a WTEF literacy grant to purchase books for elementary students.

“I wasn’t just seeing the Foundation’s impact from a leadership perspective—I experienced it as an educator who had an idea and was able to turn that idea into something tangible for students,” she said.

That experience continues to shape her belief in the foundation’s mission.

“For me, that’s one of the most powerful things about WTEF,” Mrs. Alexander-Mathews said. “It recognizes that educators know their students and often have creative ideas about how to engage and support them.”

Since its founding in 1991, WTEF has awarded $4 million through approximately 3,800 grants, benefiting more than one million teachers, students and parents. For Mrs. Alexander-Mathews, that legacy represents something bigger than numbers.

“I think the foundation has created a culture of investing in possibilities,” she said.
