The Wayne Township Education Foundation’s Board of Directors consists of 20 people from a variety of backgrounds. Board members are alumni, parents, retired and current employees, and community members.

Together with WTEF Executive Director Lisa Baize, our board oversees all our financial and programmatic matters. Simply put, without our board’s voluntary leadership and service, we wouldn’t be able to make learning come alive for our students.

During our district’s summer break, we’d like to tell you a bit about why some of our board members serve, beginning with Board Secretary Angela Barnes. Angela is a teacher at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center, and next year will serve as the school’s On Track Coordinator.

What prompted you to begin your service on the Wayne Township Education Foundation Board of Directors?

I am an ardent advocate for public education. It brings me joy to find innovative ways to raise money to support teachers' ideas that give students creative learning experiences. As a former WTEF grant recipient, I understand firsthand the impact WTEF has on students.

What are the most gratifying aspects for you in this service?

Executing the Wayne Winter Games, hosting the Seniors’ Choice Awards, and providing teacher grants are the most gratifying aspects of my service. I enjoy seeing families and staff members engage in wellness activities in the middle of winter. Plus, our community partners show up for us. The Seniors’ Choice Awards are rooted in gratitude. WTEF makes space for our senior students to express their appreciation as a class to our wonderful teachers. The teacher grants allow educators to dream big and be creative pedagogists, which has a positive impact on our students.

What would you say to encourage others to become involved in WTEF?

There is no downside to contributing to WTEF. Donors can see where their dollars have a positive impact on the students and staff of Wayne Township in tangible ways. We come alongside district leadership to provide meaningful experiences for our students and staff.
