‘Celebrate Wayne’ Brings Community Together

With toasts and tributes, two important Wayne Township anniversaries were celebrated the evening of November 5. ‘Celebrate Wayne’ drew staff from the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township, board members and volunteers from the Wayne Township Education Foundation, and community members as well. The event was held at the Global Village Welcome Center on the Indianapolis west side.

‘Celebrate Wayne’ paid tribute to MSD Wayne’s 60th and WTEF’s 30th anniversaries. “We appreciate our guests, sponsors, Area 31 catering, and our numerous volunteers who helped to make this event unique and special,” said WTEF Executive Director Lisa Baize. “We toasted our donors, sponsors and key partners in Spanish — SALUD! We paid tribute to our volunteers in Italian — CIN CIN! We toasted our teachers, students and Wayne staff in Haitian Creole — SANTE!”

City-County Councilor Crista Carlino presented a proclamation, and WTEF thanked its supporters in the Wayne Township community for their continued belief in and support of public education in Wayne.

The celebration also paid tribute to volunteers Bart York and Cookie Vargo, who have provided leadership to the Wayne Township Education Foundation for more than 30 years.  This tribute video reinforces the significance of community engagement and the sense of voluntarism that ensures WTEF’s future.
