“Shrek The Musical” cast members nominated for Encore Awards

Four cast members from the Wayne Township Community Theatre (WTCT) production of “Shrek The Musical” have been nominated for Encore Awards. WTCT presented the play at Ben Davis High School in July, 2022.

The four “Shrek The Musical” cast members nominated are Jonathan Studdard (Donkey) for Best Lead Actor in a Musical and Best Male Vocalist; Katie Kobold (Adult Fiona) for Best Lead Actress in a Musical; Josiah McCruiston (Shrek) for Best Male Vocalist; and April Armstrong (the Dragon) for Best Female Vocalist.

Wayne Township Community Theatre is a program of the Wayne Township Education Foundation (WTEF).

“We were thrilled when we heard the news of these nominations,” said WTEF Executive Director Lisa Baize. “The nominations received by our actors are in major categories, and they are so very well deserved. The level of talent, hard work and commitment displayed by our actors and crew really creates a tremendous theatre experience here in Wayne Township.”

WTCT has been producing a variety of theatre experiences in Wayne Township for 20 years. It is volunteer-driven and welcomes community involvement. Volunteers serve as actors, singers, musicians, set and costume builders, ushers and box office workers.

“Encore Association nominations are always an exciting time for Indianapolis community theaters,” said WTCT Artistic Director Craig Underwood. “It serves as a great way to recognize talent while also raising awareness of the incredible arts opportunities in the Indianapolis area.”

The Encore Association, based in Indianapolis, was established in 1970. It is made up of nonprofessional theatre groups in which no one is paid, and which operate on a nonprofit basis. The Encore Association Board of Directors hosts an annual awards ceremony each fall recognizing excellence from the previous theatrical season. This year’s awards will be presented during a November 7 ceremony at The Tobey at Newfields.

“WTCT has been represented extremely well in the Encore Awards throughout our history and ‘Shrek’ was no exception,” said Mr. Underwood. “Our nominations are the cherry on top of a really terrific summer.”
